A trip back to 1984

Over the past weekend I’ve broken out the old VCR to do some conversion to DVD. Above is some snapshots of the archives I have been retrieving. The TOP-LEFT is baby Melissa, taken from a wedding video. The other three are my Dad (TOP-RIGHT), God-father (BOTTOM-RIGHT), and my Grandfather (BOTTOM-LEFT) playing at a gig. It’s great to have this little window into the past.

There is however, one crazy twist. These pictures all happened on the same day AND they were all captured from the same video tape. It turns out that Mel’s uncle had his wedding reception in 1984 and invited his whole family to a function center. At the time, my Dad’s band “The Colours” was the regular band for this particular function center. The two families didn’t actually know each other and Mel and I weren’t going to meet until the year 2000.

To sum up. Mel’s Mum, Dad and Grandfather were in the same room as my Mum, Dad, Grandfather and Godfather in 1984. A crazy coincidence! It was great to listen to what the band got up to because (being 6 years old at the time) I was never at these gigs. I did find out that my Dad still has all the same gear and says all the same jokes!
