“I needed to get a shot with little Jessie as I fear he won’t be around for the end of this project. He is 15 years young, and just this year, his age is starting to take it’s toll. He is a well loved cat (whether he likes the idea or not!)“

This studio was the place I recorded my very first CD back in 1995. It is down in Pearcedale and has been upgraded considerably over the last 10 years.

4/365 My Favourite Shoes

“Friday night after a hard day at work, it’s great to get home and get my feet up in front of the telly. These are my favourite shoes that I can’t bear to part with. To hold on to them longer than their use by date, I have made some repairs.“
I originally took this photo with my new flash and was about to upload it, when a lovely stream of sunshine streamed in from my window on the right.

The second shot in my 365 Day series.
And so it begins …
My Brother Richard has been taking part in a photography project called the “365 Day Project“. The idea being that you take a self portrait every day of the year. The rules are basically this: YOU have to take the shot and YOU (or some part of you) have to be in it.
I have been tempted to get this going for a while and put it off. Michael (a fellow photo-er) started his yesterday and today gave me a nudge to do the same. He was right, it is best just to dive right in. So above is the first photo of my 365.
It will no doubt be a challenge to come up with a concept every day, but the way I see it, there’s few better ways to improve your “eye” and stretch your creativity. Not to mention, I may just get glimpse of myself in a way I never have before.
A friend of mine Rick Knight has come back from overseas, where he made his living doing voice-over and radio work (often utilising his Australian accent). We caught up now that he is back in town and he mentioned he was after some promo shots to use on his websites and his folio. I offered to do them as my weekend photo project.
We headed out at 6:30am Sunday morning and headed down to the Frankston foreshore to catch the morning light (before the sun got too high). After taking a few portraits and wider angle shots that included the bridge, we moved on to St Kilda. It was fairly quiet to begin with, giving us the opportunity to utilise a lot of great locations.
I found doing only portraits for the day, a massive exercise in background composition. My foreground was always going to be Rick, so my job was to make the backgrounds interesting and complimentary to the type of photo I was after. The hot day made lighting a challenge, but we worked in the shade when we could and David’s flash came in very handy!
Over all I had a photography project that required results, and I didn’t fail to deliver. Ricks only complaint was that I gave him far too many awesome shots, and he would be forever deciding which ones to use.
