36 x 35mm

David has been kind enough to lend me his Canon EOS 3000 35mm SLR to use for a while. I have really enjoyed my photography this year (in case you didn’t notice), and usually take photos digitally using my Canon EOS 350D. I decided to go “old school” for a little while and see if I could limit myself to 36 film shots, all of which I couldn’t see, edit or delete during the shoot.

The theory behind the film SLR is identical to my Digital, so I had no problem adjusting to the older format. I could effectively manage my Zoom / Aperture and Exposures without the need to “chimp”. It reminded me just how expensive film photogaphy can be. I had to buy 2 special lithium batteries and a roll of film just to get started. Once I took the shots I had to pay to get them developed (not to mention I had to wait an hour!).

Over all it was a great exercise in photography discipline, as I was very careful with every shot I took, making sure I got it right first time. This meant it wasn’t the best at shots that required quick reflexes (ie birds and animals) but it enhanced my attention to detail – I was often clearing away twigs or moving rubbish bins out of frame. I was happy with the results. I will still mainly use digital, but in th next few weeks I plan on taking the odd shot here or there, the way they used to.

Fine Photography

Kite BoarderToday I went out on a photowalk with my Brother Richard (aka RXAPhotography) down to Brighton Beach. We walked north along the shore snapping mostly landscapes and bathing boxes from various angles. Whilst on the pier, we saw two Kite-Boarders (if that’s what they are called). We walked around and the guys were more than happy to show off for our cameras, giving us some great shots! Richard sent a few to them as thanks.

Upon heading back to the car I found out that I had been slugged $55 for not buying a ticket from a ticket machine. I didn’t even know that was the deal along Beach Rd, and the signs certainly weren’t noticable.

I went back to Mum’s in Bentleigh and spent the afternoon post producing my shots. Mel and I got in our car to head home later that evening to find I had been slugged a further $66 dollars for some crap permit zone that sits smack bang in the middle of a residential street. Another sign that isn’t easily noticed.

I can only imagine the hard-on these moron ticket inspectors get when finding an offending car. Their job basically involves sneaking up when no one is looking, cowardly ruining peoples days and then skunking off to find their next victim – similar behaviour to criminals when you think about it. Can you think of any other job that is more meaningless? What grand purpose does their role in society serve? If there is any ticket inspectors reading this, I would like them to close their eyes and imagine my middle finger pointing to the sky in a salute to their kind. I know it’s just their job, but you’d have to be a complete R-Tard to accept such a worthless position – go get real job! I have had my own back with one of these losers in the past.

I’ll be fighting the tickets if I can and I am opening up the floor to anyone who has suggestions on how to get out of this waste of money.

Digital baby!

CDBaby logoMy CD (yes I’m still selling it!) is now available online from a distributor known as “CDBaby“.

People interested in purchasing my music can now find my CD in their online catalogue available for purchase as a CD and for the first time in MP3 Format!

It won’t be long now until it’s available on iTunes and the MSN equivalent (whatever that is), so keep an eye out! So those of you who have bought the physical disc, you can save yourself the painful struggle of converting the songs to MP3 and simply buy it already encoded!

The MP3s will include my CD Cover’s “album art”. For those of you who have purchased a disc and have proceeded to illegally rip it to their MP3 players, I have a copy of the album art for download here.

A lot of people have commented on how much they like the Cover to my CD and I want to take this moment to thank Michael Hewett for taking the photos! He gave up heaps of his time to take shots of me in the studio, out-and-about and writing on imaginary glass – thanks Mike! You can check out his other awesome photos on his flickr page. Some of the other shots he took can be seen at chrisannable.com.

Spring has sprung!

The last couple of weeks at work I have noticed a “noisy minor” bird hanging around a tree that’s just outside our office door. It would always be there, whenever I came or went out the door. Today I found out why. After closer inspection I discovered a nest with 2 tiny chicks huddled inside. All morning Mum and Dad Miner have been feeding them. I grabbed my camera and tried to grab a shot. unfortunately the lighting isn’t ideal and there was a lot of branches surrounding that screwed up my focus – but I’ve got a couple of “moments”.

1: Work, 2: Music, 3: Photos, 4: Goto 1

I haven’t blogged for a while so I’ll have to fill everyone in on what I’ve been doing with a “… Previously on YTruly.Net” style post.

MUSIC:
I have been selling heaps of CDs to friends, family and friends-of-friends-and-family …etc. Thankyou to everyone who supported me by buying a CD. The support I have received from everyone has been amazing, it was a lot of hard work and I hope you all enjoy the music! It is not easy for me to play salesman and ask for money from people for my music. For once I feel I have a product that’s worth it and 99% of people asked to buy one and insisted on paying for it anyway – which was really cool. There have been only the odd few who expected it for free (and were denied), and only one person who refused to support me at all.

On another note: Recently my Dad asked me to play guitar for the Primary School musical he wrote. It was great fun because it was Dad, me and my two brothers (Richard and Scott) all in a band together – a very rare occasion. Richard and I would often make each other laugh by throwing in some cheesy musical lines – the theme from “War of the Worlds” appeared more than once.

PHOTOS:
Since my last blog I have been on over 4 full photo walks, taking over 10gb of pictures with my camera. I am really enjoying this at the moment. I have no aspirations of becoming a professional, but enjoy learning. It has also become a regular form of exercise for me and Mel as last weekend alone we walked for over 7 hours. Mel is slowly becoming “one of us”. I recently have purchased some nice IS USM lenses and have been putting them through their paces. I am particularly fond of my new Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM. You can check out the results of my walks any time at my Flickr page.

WORK:
For now it’s back to work for the rest of this week. I can then look forward to one week of leave for the school holidays! During that time I’ll probably be working on music and going on photo walks – so continues the cycle!

Quote of the moment …

Dad’s wish has come true. He has finally spawned his own band!
- Richard

Said during a school production where me and my two brothers (Scott and Richard) were helping out my Dad with the music.

Tim’s Away

Tim at the Airport

Over the last few weeks, our family holiday guru (Mel) has been organising a budget holiday for my Brother Tim. I say “Budget” but he’s got a great few days planned! Yesterday he flew up to the Gold Coast and checked into his accomodation – the same place Mel and I stayed at for our Queensland holiday 2 years ago.

Today he will be walking through the gates of “Movie World”. A few of the rides are closed at the moment but, he will still be able to go on the new superman ride which was still being built when we were there. I believe there is a new Batman ride too, which would be great because the other one sucked.

Over the next couple of days he will be visiting SeaWorld and DreamWorld and then flying back to us the following day. I won’t tell you what it cost him for this little getwaway, but needless to say, Mel did such a great job organising everything, we were tempted to spend the money ourselves and go with him!

Have a great trip Tim!

Ryan SheltonOn another note, whilst at the airport embarrassingly waving goodbye to Tim I noticed “Ryan Shelton” minding his own business in one of the terminals. I had my camera with me and thought I might grab a couple of sneaky shots. I changed my mind and just went straight up to him and said “G’Day”. I asked him for a photo and he was fine with it.
