Just Can’t Wait

I have uploaded another original song to my Triple J Unearthed website. Please make sure you log in, rate it, download it and play it 100s of times to get me up on their charts!

This song is a 2007 composition and was the last edition to my new Album to be released later this year (not long now!). I have quickly labeled this one of my stronger tracks, and Mel agrees. I especially love performing it on solo guitar.

I “Just Can’t Wait” to play all my songs live for everyone ASAP!

Down to 215

Harbour Bridge

After much editing and post production, I have finally finished working on the pictures I took on my Easter break. We did a wide range of things, giving me the opportunity to take pictures of many different things, in different environments. I am getting a bit more comfortable on the DSLR now and I am enjoying heavily editing my shots in Photoshop CS2 (although 215 was quite the marathon).

Anyways you can check out a selection in my Easter 2007 Flickr album. I’ll organise the whole collection into my Gallery in the next few days.

A Circle with a sqiggly line

John Mayers Signature

Well tonight, after what was my sixth John Mayer concert, I finally got to meet the man himself for a brief moment. I have tried a few times to get his autograph in the past without luck, including earlier this afternoon (always working out where to be about 5 minutes late).

After the show Mel suggested we slip out in the encore and snatch up a spot where we knew he was leaving. When we got there it was pretty much just the two of us plus a young boy and his parents. Before John arrived that became hundreds all piling up against the gate. We survived the crowd and walked out with the 3rd signing. Mel even got the whole thing on video.

That moment has topped off what has been an awesome break for Mel and myself. This is our last night in Sydney as we fly back tomorrow night.

Monday: Sydney

Opera House

Well after traveling by car / plane / train and then tram we finally made it to our 8th floor hotel room in Sydney on Monday. We made good time and didn’t hesitate to start looking around town.

Mel and I were very impressed with Avalon airport and Jetstar. We preferred the quieter, more laid back terminal and had a smooth flight. The public transport in Sydney is another matter all together. We worked out that the Rail / Ferry company does not link with the Light Rail (tram) / Monorail company, making crossing over between the two very expensive. After a grilling session with pad and pen, mapping out how their system works, we decided the best course of action with tickets and can now navigate the city with very little trouble. Connex may be bad, but Melbourne’s public transport is a way better setup.

We decided to start off with dinner at Star City Casino Monday night. It is a beautiful place with heaps of awesome displays and water features. We ate at a massive Buffet restaurant and then wasted our free $10 (given to us after we joined the casino rewards program) on the pokies.

Soon after that we called it a night so that we could be ready for our full day the next day.

Point Nepean (John Mayer II)

Point Nepean Crowd

Well it was Mel and I versus 7498 other patrons at Day 2 of the Point Nepean Music Festival yesterday. Mel and I camped out at the front of the main stage at the start of the day. We soon lost that place when we took a food break and the crowd poured in – not before getting a picture of ourselves (very small) amongst the crowd in todays Herald Sun. If you have a copy you can see us in the bottom photo of page 5 (Mel’s blue top with white sleeves stands out under the singers elbow!). We were standing right next to the five girls featured in the main photo on that page.

We got to see some great bands including Bela Fleck (with Victor Wooten on Bass – awesome!), Ozomatli and of course John Mayer. The highlight act for me though was Missy Higgins. I haven’t heard much of her music, other than the singles, but was blown away by her performance.

The crowd was huge, making things cramped at times, but generally easy going. I managed to stay pretty close to the front for most of the shows, nearly making myself deaf from the speakers. To avoid a long wait Mel and I started wandering out near the end of John Mayer’s performance, listening all the way to the car park. We will be seeing him again in Sydney this week!

John Mayer I

John MayerFor some reason yesterday, I didn’t get around to checking my emails until late afternoon. I have heaps of notification devices and programs around the house, but it wasn’t until 3pm that I read the e-mail from the John Mayer fanclub about the 3:30pm meetup in the city.

I grabbed Mel and flew out of the house as fast as we could manage. I was on a mission to get there in time so I drove in a way that would make Dean and Andrew very proud, getting from my place to Vodafone Arena in around 35 minutes!

I made it in time and met up with my brother Richard inside. It was a much better soundcheck than last years. John played around 5 songs, some of which weren’t played that night.

The concert was great, Mel and I were front row (to the right as you look at the stage) and I got some pretty cool shots just using my little Nikon point and shoot.

You can view a few shots in my gallery. Now it’s off to Point Nepean!

Mirboo Nth

Light BeerI am currently sitting in what I call the “magic spot” at Mel’s uncles place in Mirboo Nth. It is on a dairy farm in the country and there’s very little phone reception here to connect to the wireless broadband.

We met up with Mel’s dad and uncle tonight for dinner, and then went to the local brewery to try some of the town’s beer. They offered a $10 sampler which we shared.

We’ve done very little else, but that is the beauty of coming up here. “Ahhh .. the serenty!”

Leave loaded

Well my long awaited leave from work starts today and Mel and I will be preparing for our busy week to come. During the next ten days we will be:

  • Travelling using at least 7 modes of transport at one time or another (car, bus, tram, train, taxi, monorail and plane)
  • Sleeping in 5 different locations, inlcluding 2 different states
  • Seeing 3 live concerts all featuring the 1 act (guess who)
  • Taking at least 400 photos a day!
  • Thanks to Dean we will be online the whole time, so I will be sure to blog our progress and update the gallery – stay tuned!

    The 50mm Challenge

Canon EF 50mm f1.8After rave reviews from both Richard and Mike, I decided to take the plunge and buy the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens for my DSLR. I soon discovered how much fun this lens can be – especially playing with Aperture Values.

Today whilst Mel was scrap booking with friends, Mike and I went out for a wander around Glen Waverly. There is a lake there that is perfect for taking photos – and as a challenge, we both took the 50mm only (with no zoom). It was a bit awkward for me at first being a zoom-aholic but I soon found it to be no problem.

Another challenge we tried was taking more than 10 shots of a single subject, from multiple angles. Most of my shots turned out pretty ordinary, but it did force me to look at the object differently to what I am used to doing (break a few habits). I enjoy hanging out with experienced photographers because they are all too happy to help a photo-noob like me learn the tricks.

You can see a few of the better pics from my jaunt in my Gallery (requires login), or on my Flickr account.
