My Picks of My Pics

I have recently made the ridiculous purchase of a digital SLR camera. I’ve wanted to take photos as a hobby for a long time and my Nikon 7900 wasn’t enough. Going along with the trend among my friends and family, I purchased a new Canon 350D.

Australia day I went out with David, met up with Michael and Richard and took over 300 photos in an attempt to learn how to use my new camera as more than just a point and shoot device. There was plenty of activity in the city that day for Australia Day, and also plenty of people; everything from old cars to a skywriter.

You can see some of my results in my Gallery (registered users only) and on my Flickr account. Please keep in mind I am only a newbie!

The ‘D’

Friday night I escorted my younger brother Scott and his friend to a “Tenacious D” concert in the city. The venue was Festival hall, and the rumours about the hot temperature inside the venue were not exaggerated – especially seeing as how the night was humid enough already.

It was a great show. Jack Black and Kyle Gas performed many of their songs from their multi album repetoire both acoustically and with their band. It was very funny and entertaining from start to finish. There was heaps of character guests including the infamous “Lee”, an elboratly costumed robot named “The Metal”, Charlie Chaplain, Colonel Sanders, the Anti-Christ and his father, Satan himself.

Merchandise was suitably over-priced along with the 4 dollar water bottles, so we waited until the end of the show for food. Overall the show was awesome and the venue was not – good night none the less.

Accepted!

RMITThis week I got the great news that my late application last year to RMIT’s city campus was not in vein. I found out in the newspaper, via an SMS, on the web and in a letter on Tuesday that I had been accepted into their “Business Information Systems” course which was my number 1 (and only) preference.

Now I have a dizzying array of forms and documents to organise before my enrollment next week. Thanks to all who helped me with my application. I’m studying part time along side my full time work, so lets hope I finish it all before I’m 40!

1000 days young!

Well my blog has made it to 1000 days running, although it was pretty hairy there for a couple of hours. Just before writing this one of my plugins decided to destroy itself. Luckily I had only just backed up my database and a restore fixed it. It is still only hanging on by a thread but (whilst waiting for an update) I coded a fix, should it decide to fall over again.

I have added a few more features:

- PDA browsing for those of us geeky enough to have Blackberrys or PDAs
- An integrated Gallery (thanks again to James for helping me copy his website)

Comments are now active again but users will be required to register an account and login to do so.

Please let me know if you come accross anything that doesn’t work!
Or maybe at the moment it will be easier to tell me what does work :-P

Version 2007

My blog has been updated again. It has tones of new features with the addition of the K2 addon for Wordpress. I am enlisting the help of all the web gurus I know (ie James and Mike) to do this one properly. Some of the features include ajax content, microsummaries (live bookmark titles for Firefox 2.0+) and there will soon be user registration.

There’s no commenting available at the moment as I am trying to make things a bit more secure. I am also going to be incorporating my other domains into this framework to make it all match. So stay tuned while I finalise everything.

Hope you like it!

All new

Well it’s a new year, new week and all new water restriction level. I swear our water company should make it’s new name “South Eastern Water – or lack there of”.

I celebrated the passing of 2006 as I usually do, playing music. Dad and I played for the first time as our new duo Generation2 at a new restaurant in Tooradin. The night was a big hit, which is new for me. When it comes to New Years Eve gigs they usually end up being a lot more hard work and a lot less satisfying. I have to say, Dads 40 years of experience showed and I now realise how much more I still have to learn.

I am planning on making a new blog website and a new music website to promo all my new stuff, but hope to stay away from computers for a little while. My new CD is coming along and, dare I say, nearing completion. As for Mel, her (not so new) job is keeping her busy pretty much 6 days a week.

It was great catching up with everybody over the last couple of weeks and if Mel and I didn’t get to see you, we hope you had a great holiday/new years. It’s off to the gym tonight to work off all the Christmas junk food! :-(
