Need Sleep

Between website coding, album recording, cover gigs, PC repairs and after hours jobs from my Manager, I’m finding the only place where I can get a decent sleep at the moment is at work (kidding Dean!). I haven’t even really had time to update my blog of late, so here’s some of what I’m up to:

I’ve been songwriting like crazy this year, hoping to put a strong library of originals together for shows and demos. I’ve been deafening myself each night trying to produce my songs to the most pofessional sound I can pull from my dodgey computer set up, each night at home. My lack of the “proper” gear makes the task take longer than if I were in a pro studio. Plus there is the element of me being a perfectionist. I’ll be sending these tracks of to be professionally mastered so as long as I get them close enough, they should be ok.

Next, there is the massive “research” phase I am in. CD Duplication, Cover Printing, Dealing with A&R Reps, Venues for Gigs, CD Launches, Labels, Distributions … etc, etc. I learnt a lot from my experience at the PBS Song Festival Gig – but the main thing I learned is that I have a LOT to learn!

I have been getting heaps of cover work recently which has been awesome – I am getting better each show. I update my reptoire pretty regularly, trying to put in songs that are most requested (yes, I now know Khe San!). Most gigs I do are worth giving up a portion of my weekend for. I am now averaging 1 gig a week up until Christmas.

So it’s definately a case of me burning the candle at both ends. Oh well I’m off to fix one of the many busted printers here at work … and then maybe a nap ;-)

CHRiSANNAbLE.com After many days of frantic coding, my new “orignal music” website CHRiSANNAbLE.com is now up and running. The site’s purpose is to be a source of information and promotion that is easily available to anyone interested in my music. Thanks to David for taking the pictures for me last Sunday.

Seems I was the last to know about Apple letting us poor Aussies into the world of legal music downloads. No John Mayer songs of any worth yet, but his album is comng out soon so I’ll be ok. Finally it’s here … and I can’t think of anything I want :-(

“Yours Truly” was unsuccessful at passing Heat 7 of the PBS Festival of Song contest last night. Thanks to Damian for helping me out on Bass. The people that got through were well deserving. Melbourne has some awesome music talent and it was great to get feedback from other people in the business.

Thanks also to Andrew who came along to film it for me. The footage has been invaluable, as I can see what I need to do to improve. I am happy to say, even though I was having trouble with my voice, the songs still came through beautifully.

Well, the show goes on with me writing more material than ever this year. A website will be up soon dedicated purely to my original music projects.

Holiday-by-day

Us with FridayDuring our fantastic getaway to Queensland, I decided it would be a good idea to keep a small Diary of our experiences.

Each night, whilst watching an iPhoto slideshow of the day’s pictures, Mel and I would write down (in point form) where we went and what we did.

Get set to Jet-set

Well – tomorrow’s the day we set off!

Its amazing how much money you spend just preparing for a holiday – especially your first “real” one. We’ve been stocking up on bags, tickets, buying tiny little toiletries and even updating our wardrobe. At this rate we won’t have any money left to spend up at Queensland!

We’ve been utilising Frankston’s new Shopping Centre Wing. It includes a Safeway, K-Mart and various other shops we used to have to go to Cheltenham for. It’s still under construction but due for completion in November.

I’m not sure of internet up at Queensland. I’ll probably have web access, but I’ll have to find a way to upload a few pix. Junior is coming (my Mac), but I don’t think I’ll be able to hook him up. I’ll just be using the laptop to dump photos mainly – also to prep the hours of slideshows I’ll put everyone through when we return!
