Just taking a moment to wish by brother Richard
a “Happy (3 weeks to my) Birthday”

I finally got around to watching Joss Wheden’s latest creation – the TV series FIREFLY. Joss Wheden was the mind behind two of my other favourite series’s’s “BUFFY” and “ANGEL“.
This latest concept is set 500 years in the future and is a perfect blend between old and new. It uses all the classic themes of an early western movie and blends it with modern Sci-Fi. It has Bar Fights, Gun Play, Bounty hunters and Train Robberies combined with Space Travel, Technology, Advanced Communications and Lasers. My Dad will be happy to hear that it is the first series to show all space scenes (explosions, rockets) without sound – as at literally would be. It also has that touch of “Buffy-like” humor which is always good value.
The charaters include a captain, first officer, pilot, doctor, muscle, preacher and a companion (highly respected call girl). A lot of the story centers around the Doctor’s Sister who is a certified genious but mentally unstable due to being the victim of cruel experiments. The Crew of “Serenity” are often the criminals in the story, but often have high morals.
I got more and more into it and finished episode 14 last night. To my surprise, this sadly was the last episode made as the show was cancelled. I will now have to wait for the upcoming movie to either re-tell the story or continue it from where it left off.
Saturday I did my second and unfortunately last fill-in gig with the covers band “Rocket Girl“. Their regular guitarist returns in July.
I didn’t make such a good impression this time, as I arrived late (quiet Richard!). I had missread the email I was sent and thought it all started 90 minutes later than it did. I arrived about 5 minutes before we should have been playing. I set up as quickly as I could and we began what was to be the first of 5x 40 minute sets.
I enjoyed catching up with everyone in the group and also liked being in a band again. Playing all the solo gigs makes you really appreciating sharing the work with fellow musos.
After three sets of me dodgily playing jazz numbers and fumbling over solos we got to the disco stuff. Finally – the songs I know! These were a big hit with the crowd and the band leaders Erynn and Damian really did a fine job keeping the energy up in the room.
We packed everything up at around 1am and I headed back home to Frankston via the sceneic route along the coast of the Bay. Erynn informed me that I would be called in anytime their guitarist couldn’t make it in future, so I guess I didn’t suck
Last Friday Night I took the long car trip to Frankston to play for the locals at “The Pint and Pickle”. It was a last minute request from the agency and it was lovely and close to home. The PA they provided was pretty bad so I ended up popping home to grab my own.
My good friend Anthony dropped in during the first set and we had a good catch up during the break. He was pleased to see that I was still using his speakers, and most of all, that they still worked. Unfortunately no one else was able to make it down
.
I finished up at around 10:30, just as the next band was setting up. Great venue for my style of playing and I hope they get me back in soon!

My agent called wanting me to fill in for a regular tonight. I hesitantly asked where, only to find out it was in FRANKSTON! For once less than 100k away, less than 10k away … less than 1k away!!
As it turns out, most of the people I know are doing something tonight and can’t come and see me. That would be right!
If you are in the area, I’ll be strumming away at “The Pint & Pickle” – Nepean Hwy Frankston, from 7pm.
I decided it was time to get rid of the cassette player in my car and replace it with something a little more 21st century. As I know very little about cars and how they fit together, I was a little annoyed to find that the plugs don’t just fit into the back of my New JVC head unit.
Thinking this system was completely flawed, I took Andrew’s advice and headed on down to my local Autobarn. They stock a series of “ISO” connectors which help you avoid slicing into your car’s cabling. The idea is: you buy connector for your car, and then one for you head unit and they will link up in the middle via their standard ISO style plugs. Good thinking – whomever came up with it.
Now my ride is a little more “fly” with my pimped up stereo – which incidently now has all its speakers working. There must have been a dead channel on the other one. It plays CDs, MP3s and even has a Radio! Now all I need is a spoiler, some rims and an Xbox in the boot and this dog will get that fizzle in his dizzle, G.

Today is Mel’s Birthday. I woke her up at 7am (on her day off) by singing loudly in her ear.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELISSA!
Luv YoursTRULY
The long weekend couldn’t have come at a better time. I was going to have a 4 day weekend but for some unknown reason the “Powers that be” denied me. I already knew I wasn’t needed, but turned up to work anyway … early (so that I could leave early). All that day, as I completed odd jobs that needed to be done, I was overwhelmed by the lack of requests for my assistace … totalling NONE!
That night whilst I did my gig, Mel went out rollerskating at “Rollerama” with Mike & Justine. Mel used to be quite the rollerblader but says she isn’t as good as she used to be now. She had a teenage flash back watching all the little teenie-boppers go for it. Don’t forget Mel, you were a big dork like that too once!
The next day we didn’t get up until midday. We decided to go out on a real date that evening – dinner and a movie. We saw Mr & Mrs Smith – A great movie. Once I realised it was more of a metaphore on marriage than a “shoot-em-up” film, I understood the humor behind it. After filling up on popcorn, I (once again) was too full for dinner so we decided to have a go in “Tunza Fun” (and it was!) just down the road.
Sunday I played drums for Dad in the morning and came home to tidy up our warzone of a house. I recabled our networking so it didn’t look so ugly and we could shut our bedroom window to keep the cold out at night. We later visited the rellies at Dromana for dinner.
Monday was officially a “geek day” with David and Tim coming round for a LAN Party / City of Heroes binge. We had the whole collection: Coke, Chips and a 1.5mb Net connection.
