Gee … long! Update:

My agent called back saying that The Max Hotel in Geelong was interested in having me back this Friday. It was a good gig last Friday night and I am so glad they liked my playing but unfortunately they want me to start from 6pm for a function. :-(

There is no way I would be able to get from Berwick to Geelong through Friday night traffic, (and be set up!) by 6pm. A shame, I would have liked to play there once more. Here’s hoping they call back again.

Meanwhile you can check out where I’ve played and where I’m going to be playing on my [GIG GUIDE]

Quote of the moment …

It’s got some really big words … and a little French
-Mel’s review of ‘The Da Vinci Code

For a double story house, our TV reception was terrible. We are lucky to get Channel 9 and SBS through our Foxtel Digital but all other channels sucked. Our local Supermarket advertised a cheapo Digital set-top box for just $79 so we thought it would be worth giving it a go.

We now have digital, crystal clear, wide screen TV for all channels. Nice :-)

Gee … long!

Gig - The Max HotelI loaded up my little car with gear and ventured off for my second solo gig as “YoursTRULY”. Mel came for the ride and we managed to get from Frankston to Geelong (via Tollways) in 1 hours 30mins. I was expecting it to take much longer so it was a relief.

The venue was “The Max Hotel”, a nice bar/restaurant that was unfortunately quiet due to Uni exams. Mel was quite excited to see “YoursTRULY” written on their band board – come to think of it, I thought it was cool too :-) . I set up my gear and strummed away for the better part of 3 hours. Unlike my previous gig at Zagames, this venue seemed to prefer when I played without my backings. I still threw a few “Electric” Songs in there but the bulk of my set included acoustic classics.

Gig - The Max HotelI was happy to come through with 3 out of 5 requests for songs to play, I’m gonna improve that in the coming gigs. Over all they seemed happy with my performance. Not one patron left without letting me know how much they enjoyed my singing. We managed to get out around half an hour early due to an early start, so Mel and I got home at a semi-reasonable hour. After a midnight Maccas run (of course!).

Cliffhanger Closure

That’s it for now! I have seen the series finales of 24, Alias and Lost which were all that remained from my regular US TV series viewing. I stupidly thought the season finales would give me closure, like what I got from watching SWIII, with all my questions answered. I was wrong.

LOST was the worst at not answering questions, but then again it always has been – part of the shows charm I guess. Alias averted global disaster over 3 episodes and in the last 3 seconds drops a bombshell about one of the characters and leaves it at that until next season. Not too bad, you do want something to keep you going. 24 rounded things off nicely but still left you wondering how they are going to continue the story next season. The OC have done a good job at once again messing up everyones lives, Mel cant wait to see what happens with that one.

All the rest, well I cant remember them so they can’t have been that impressive. For now it will be over to shows like “Firefly” by Joss Wheden (Buffy and Angel creator) and the new series of “The 4400″ – another show that left us with unanswered questions.

A quick shout out to all those people getting sued for Bit Torrent!

-UPDATE-
For fans of LOST – Dean found a website produced by the show with all kinds of hidden messages and show info. Including a short preview of season 2!

To be Continued …

Well all of our US shows are drawing to a close again with the season finals of Joey, Smallville, That 70’s Show, Scrubs and the OC having aired. Alias, 24 ( Mel and my Favorite! ) plus the ever popular LOST are finishing up this week. This will have a good effect on my 20gb bandwidth limit that I have often come close to pulling from TPG over the past few months – but it will force us to wait once again until September to see what happens to everyone.

Enterprise had its final episode forever recently as it has been cancelled by UPN. This is a huge shame because I thought the show was great. The last episode included cast from the “Next Generation” series and was told from the perspective of the the future Enterprise.

We wont be totally without entertainment over the coming months as I have heaps of shows that Michael was kind enough to pass on to me. The return of “The 4400″ will be on our playlist also.

For now we will just have to put up with the inevitable “To be Continued”.

The Word

GreaseLast night Mel and I went out on the town to see “Grease – the Arena Spectacular“. Mel had never been to see a live stage show so I treated her to a night at the Rod Laver.

The role of Danny was played by Craig McLachlan. He is always great value in these types of shows – very funny, great singer, all round performer. Sandy was played by Nathalie Bassingthwaighte – Izzy from Neighbours. She came right out of left field with her stunning voice. I thought they just got her in because of her TV celebrity, but I was blown away by her singing – especially during the well known “Hopelessly Devoted”.

Some other names included Magda Szubanski, Courtney (from Aus Idol), Richard Wilkins and the Music was by the ever popular “Chong Lim” with his usual “Dancing with the Stars” band. The crowd favorite was John Farnham. He came out in full swing as teen angel and sang a couple more in the encores.

One down side – Rob “Millsey” Mills. This talentless hack was the only thing wrong with what was otherwise a fantastic show! He can’t dance or act and he certainly can’t sing. That just happened to be what he was attempting to do for his scenes in the show. One memorable moment was when John Farnham had sung an encore and was then followed by Millsey giving it a go. No comparison, not even the same ballpark – not even the same universe!

Anyway, Mel and I had a great night and hopefully this show will get me out of taking her to the “Dirty Dancing” live show.

The Force is strong in this one!

YodaEnjoy the movie, you will!

Star Wars III – Revenge of the Sith was awesome! Mel and I just came back from seeing it in the new Gold Class at Karingal. They leave no questions at the end of this one. The story is told magnificently in what can only be described as an epic film! The reviewers were right, it definately craps on the first two. I’ll have to see it again just to take it all in! ;-)

Then I can look forward to the live action TV series that they’ll be producing. I’m glad the saga continues.

By the way – Darth Vader is Luke’s father … sorry to ruin it for you! :P

Code Red!

I have had it with MySQL, PHP, RSS and anyother letters of the alphabet that are required to get this blog functioning! Today I discovered and fixed the following:

- My “Quote of the moment” function had stopped due to the new wordpress ’slug’ upgrades. They now label posts with the same title differently.
>>I changed the function to look at the actual heading instead of the slug. I would like to get it working through “categories” but I would be required to get the database looking at multiple tables and generating “post id” arrays – a major headache. If anyone comes up with something – let me know!

- The RSS Feed displayed nothing. No errors, no messages and certainly no Blog entries. Just nothing. The source that Mozilla showed me was “(html)(body)(/body)(/html)”.
>>I tried everything and eventually resorted to trying an upgraded “Header” page which seems to have done the trick. God knows what else it’s doing but as long as all seems well – I just don’t care.

One day I might actually learn the ins-and-outs website design through something other than damage control. :-(

On a more positive note – the creator of the Theme I have based my theme on – Denis de Bernardy – contacted me recently. He wanted a copy of the style sheets I edited for my “YoursTRULY” skinning of his design. He said he was impressed and was interested in using some of my ideas. I downloaded the theme from Here.
