T.E. – T.I.Y.L.

Tommy Emmanuel TIYLLast night Channel 9 aired This is Your Life, featuring a musical idol of mine Tommy Emmanuel. My brother Richard is also a fan, and he was over for our “Dipity” rehearsal – so we were able to watch it together. Tommy’s family and friends surprised him after a show he performed with his brother in Queensland. The audience got to see his concert and a few hours of taping afterwards – they were said to have stayed until well into the moring.

Tommy Emmanuel is truly one of the worlds best guitarists, and rightfully deserved this honor. They told the story of how he started playing at the age of 6 and was touring the country with his family during what would have been his primary school years.

Apparently he’s coming out to Australia again at the end of the year. I plan to catch him this time as I have missed his last 2 shows due to playing gigs of my own. Richard is in the “in” crowd with Tommy so I plan to go with him to any concerts he sees, and see if he’ll sneak me backstage ;-)

Laptop Whisperer – C.N.O.

Today I have declared myself the “laptop whisperer”. I repared a couple of nagging faults, fairly effortlessly today and have decided it is my natural touch. Now that staff member can “P” again!

While this is going on people have been measuring up my current desk area. Seems like the Library staff here are sad to see me go. Kind of like the way parents are sad to see their Adult children finally leave. They have named the office I will be moving into (currently under construction), the “C.N.O”. Which stands for “Computer Nerds Office”. Gee … I hope it catches on!

Quote of the moment …

“You live soul, you breathe soul, YOU ARESOUL!”
-Andrew G (Australian Idol)

Telstra’s not in right now

This afternoon I set out to do what I thought to be a very simple task. We need an answering machine for our home phone, so I purchased one from Karingal Hub Telstra Shop. In an answering machine, I am pretty sure I speak for the general public when I say we would like it to be able to do the following 2 things:

1. Beep so that callers know when to leave a message.
2. Record whatever message comes down the line.

The design of M450 Digital Answering Machine that I purchased failed at both. It should be called a “speaking machine” because all it does is play your message then hang up.

We rang their support line for help and ironically got their answering machine – seems there’s works fine!

Moonlight Out

Saturday night I was forced to endure a meal at “The Windsor” 5 Star hotel in the city. Fancy place! For some reason I felt I had to put on a bad british accent whenever I was in there, but Marion soon slapped that off. We did a quiet jazz set to get them going before dinner. Then, after sitting around for about 3 hours watching the happy couple become a “statistic to be” (cynic much?), Marion and I got up for a 1 hour set of 80s type dance rubbish that everyone seemed to love. They were a good crowd, willing to dance to anything we threw at them. Over all a successful gig with good food, that payed well and was over by midnight – what more could you ask for?

That was sadly Marion and my last Gig as M00NL(GHT. What a ride! Marion and I did plenty of reminiscing about long trips to the NSW or SA borders. Low paying, long, torturous gigs in bad venues. We also thought of the bad times.

I speak only on behalf of my selfishness when I wish her a horrible time at her new gig overseas so that she’ll come home and we can get back to work! :-P

All the Best Marion!! ;-)

All things Blog

I’ve upgraded my version of wordpress (Clever Me!) to help manage the spamming which has been occuring.
Comments will only now be moderated if they contain certain key words – so type away!.

Please let me know if you find anything that has been lost in the upgrade :-)

CHECK YOUR RSS FEEDS!
To upgrade as safely as I could, I put the new install under a subfolder. This will also help me organise any future YTruly.Net sites.
As a result, all RSS Feed addresses have changed. I have it redirecting, please check that your feeds are getting through.
(If not, new links are at the bottom-right – on menu)

Comments

It’s a shame but I now have to resort to comment moderation. A prick with the alias “texas holdem” (an online gambling site) decided to spam me over this weekend. Please leave comments as usual and I will approve them as fast as I can.

The IP addresses of the spammer were: 213.167.97.194 and 220.99.118.172**
Block them from commenting on your blogs if you can!
Feel free to hack the crap out of them too ;-)

UPDATE:

**They use multiple IPs so it will be nearly impossible to block them that way.
Anyone who has any suggestions, please let me know!

… and on triangle – Nero!

Last night was the 2nd of 3000 rehersals with my brother for our Duo “Serendipity”. We’ve made it to 30 songs which was what Marion and I started with 2 years ago (that’s right, 2 years!). Not too bad an effort for 2 rehersals. Contrary to what either of us is likely to say, we are coming up sounding really good, and I am looking forward to a fun night.

Mel walked in on us playing and mentioned something about how we were “burning!”. I was dissapointed to find out that she wasn’t talking about our ‘hot’ entertainment, but the fact that I was copying some DVDs for Richard at that same time. This was great fun when we would finish a song and then hear the ‘ting!’ from my computer telling us the DVD is cooked – right on time!

Anyone looking for a great nights entertainment, but are willing to settle for something cheap and nasty – give us a call!

Weekstart

I’m so glad it’s Monday because now I can relax and get a few days rest ;-)

My weekend was unusually busy with our house being like an open house over the two days. Saturday morning meant Mel was at work again (grrr…). She takes my car which means I am forced to stay home and play City of Heroes for a few hours. Damn!

That night I had a mates bucks party. It started off at his place, then went via my place to Davies in Frankston. I had no idea that place was so lively! It was crowded, smokey, loud, packed and expensive. That combination isn’t my idea of fun but the groom had a great time. I really came to appreciate Mel having her lisence when she picked me up at 2am! Love you Mel!! :-D

Sunday – Mel woke me at about midday to tell me that my Dad and Step-mum were on their way over to have lunch with us. I’m sure I looked a million dollars. They brought some sandwich rolls and we had a nice meal enjoying the sunlight reflecting off the dirt in our neglected backyard.

Not long after they left my mate from work Andrew came around with his new Xbox. It was a good purchase with the right DVD-Rom and Kernel versions – at the right price. It did need an OS upgrade though, so I helped him out ;-) . While I was doing that, Mel’s friend Talara came over to get her PC fixed more. I’ve never had so many clients on my LAN! We had a bit of trouble (once again) with finding the correct AC’97 drivers for her Acer ‘S’ Series. Andrew came through for them with this as he had a selection on his laptop.

After watching Hellboy on my newly upgraded XBMC, I spent the rest of that evening setting up the capture card in my Media Box so that I could watch the ARIAs and play CoH at the same time. Phew! Back to work now.

From the “Last to know” Dept.

My brother stumbled apon yet another crazy Google feature which I didn’t know about. It seems the staff there are not without their Trekkie geeks and have made a version of their site completely in Klingon

Nice :-)

I am also fond of the H4X0R version.

Sorry if this is old news!
