Hey Hey in HD

Tonight after what they called a “10 year Christmas break”, the cast and crew of Hey Hey it’s Saturday returned to Australian TV screens … On a Wednesday.

My wife and I were excited to see it’s return and couldn’t believe how instantly familiar it was.

It was a little surreal watching to Darryl and the gang talk about Facebook and Twitter in Widescreen HD Digital. But it was also a reminder of just how much variety television has become a lost art.

Over all I found it thoroughly entertaining. It was just as “fun” as I remembered it and it aired on a night where I needed to forget about things for an hour or 2. I am looking forward to more of the original cast returning next week.

Welcome back Hey Hey! We missed you!

September TV

I just had a look at my Online TV Calendar and boy is there a lot of new TV coming back this week! Late September is typically when the US networks start their show seasons.

On my list this week is:

  • Curb Your Enthusiasm;
  • Entourage (has been back for 10 episodes now);
  • House;
  • How I Met Your Mother;
  • Heroes;
  • Bones (started last week);
  • The Office (started last week);
  • Smallville; and
  • Dollhouse.

I had better queue up my trusty old VCR (aka the internet).

Christmas 2008

Christmas Lights

The end of the year is fast approaching and for many (not me) holidays are just around the corner. I am trying to save up my leave so I won’t be taking any time off other than the public holidays this year. To be honest I’m kind of over Christmas 2008 and have been since September.

The only thing keeping me vaguely interested is the fact that it will be my daughter’s first. Even though she won’t remember it, it is still nice to share this time with a child in the family. I can’t wait until she becomes excited about Santa and we can read her all the Christmas stories, and sing with her all the Christmas Carols.

If you usually receive a gift from me at Christmas time, please don’t get over excited this year. My wife and I are desperately trying to save money at the moment and aren’t even buying anything for each other. I have a “no gift” agreement with a couple of people which basically means what we will exchange is the saving of both the time and the money that would usually be spent buying a gift. If you want to be included in this, feel free to let me know! I don’t want to do this every year – just to save money this year. Besides, all I am really looking forward to is sharing a meal with friends and family.

Having said that, I wish everyone out there peace and happiness for the festive season and a prosperous New Year!

D.O.A.

  • - Today my wife and Father-in-law transported and installed our new 9 kilo washing machine, only to find that it was damaged and needed to go back. It had a dent in the side that prevents the lid from closing.
  • - A couple of days ago my wife purchased a swing for our little girl. When getting out of the box we found one of the supports were snapped. I also received my new Mac with a faulty RAM chip.
  • - A couple of weeks ago Mel purchased a small set of draws. The top was so bent that you couldn’t slide the draw in.
  • - A couple of months ago we had to take our pram back more than 3 times to get something either fixed or replaced. Also, our port-a-cot came in a faulty bag and was swapped.
  • - A couple of years ago I had to return my 350D due to it having a faulty flash and orientation sensor. I also bought a PC that needed both the motherboard and RAM replaced straight away. We bought two desks, both had incorrect parts included in the box and parts missing we needed to send away for.
  • - You can search my blog to find out about my adventures with the Nokia 6600.

We are just a little sick of paying for, and receiving goods that are broken!
Not only is it frustrating, but returning and swapping items is a total waste of time.
What has happened to quality control?

I don’t have a state of the art system setup at home. It’s nowhere near 1080p, doesn’t use HDMI and my non-HD CRT TV isn’t as thin as the current model LCDs. Still, it works fine and we are happy with it. It is better when you’re facing towards it though.

Today, in the car, I listened to an old Acoustic EP I made last year. It features some songs that aren’t included in my Album. It wasn’t too bad; even by my highly self critical standards.

Must Upgrade …

After I bought my new Mac, I was completely happy with my choice of OS …
… until I saw this commercial:

Now I may have to reconsider!

Optus or Droptus?

There’s been a few articles floating around regarding how unreliable the iPhones are and how slow the Optus network has been. Is this a case of tall poppie “take that Apple!” criticism, or are the concerns well founded?

My wife and I each have an iPhone on Optus and have been quite happy. They are great “all-round” devices with a very nice and easy to use web interface. We mainly use our wireless internet at home, so we don’t rely on the Optus 3G network as much as some people – but it has rarely failed us. However, we do rely heavily on their normal GSM mobile phone network, and that has been a little flaky at times (dropping out etc). But for the price we pay, the deal we are getting is way better than anything Telstra (the most reliable but expensive network) offers.

Over all, we are still glad we bought the phones and enjoy using them every day with Optus. Isn’t that all that matters … ?
